Job Description

My client, one of the largest retail operations in South Africa based in Johannesburg, is looking for an IT Availability and Demand Capacity Manager to join their growing team. Reporting directly to the General Manager for Service Operations, the IT Availability and Demand Capacity Manager will oversee and coordinate implementation and maintenance of the Capacity Management process and activities throughout the organisation.

The incumbent will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Active problem management with technology partners, ensuring that detailed analysis occurs and appropriate resolutions are put in place
  • Create capacity and availability plans to leverage existing IT investments and reduce downtime.
  • Determine the availability requirements and capacity demands for new and existing IT services to minimise service outages and maximise Return on Investment (ROI).
  • Ensure comprehensive communication of deals that are in place and intervene as appropriate should Divisions deviate from recommended options.
  • Ensuring that new and existing services deliver the levels of availability agreed with the business in service level agreements and that there is sufficient IT capacity to meet current and future demand.
  • Identify resourcing issues proactively and provide appropriate and timely solutions, working with the Service Delivery manager to resolve as required.
  • Incorporate availability and capacity requirements in new services to create services that are designed to meet the availability and capacity needs of the business.
  • Keep up to date of industry (IT and Retail) developments, best practices and trends.
  • Maintain good relationships with contractors and recruiting agencies in order to react rapidly when external resources are required on short notice
  • Provide detailed system reporting to users and technical groups to highlight availability and reliability against agreed targets.
  • Responsible for availability and performance monitoring, investigate related incidents and diagnose problems, to improve the availability of ICT services to the business.

Essential skills and experience required for this role:

Client / Vendor Management:

  • Display a strong customer focus background with commercial awareness and strategic thinking capability.
  • Possess excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  • Possess strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong stakeholder management experience including experience dealing with and presenting to senior management.

Value Management:

  • Management of budget (Cost and Headcount) without compromising the effectiveness of the service provided to the organisation.
  • Achievement of service levels and overall performance against KPIs.

The Successful Applicant

Professional Qualification Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or equivalent experience in IT

Technical Qualification Requirements:

  • ITIL Foundation, ITIL Practitioner Certification (non-negotiable)


  • Minimum 10 years suitable experience in an IT Manager role or close adjacent role.
  • Proven internal and external influencing skills at senior and executive management levels.
  • Track record of managing a similar sized environment and achieving high levels of performance and customer satisfaction.

What's on Offer

R850,000 CTC per annum to R950,000 CTC per annum
