Job Description

Reporting into the CEO, the Supply Chain Director will be responsible for the management of the Supply Chain and Procurement function (which includes all MRO and services) as a strategic asset and in accordance with the companies Supply Chain strategy, by operationally integrating the company's procurement, distribution and customer service strategy.

The Supply Chain Directory will be responsible for leading the optimization of the supply chain integration function, for manufacturing materials and components and the purchasing operations with the objective to improve Total Cost of Ownership, optimize inventory movement and stock holding.

The SCD has to be able to not only manage the end to end SC within the manufacturing concern, but also to manage the third-party relationship with thier distributor, as well as Customer Service Logistics.

Key Responsibilities within the role:

  • Develop and implement strategy to transform current chain into a low TCO, high quality and high performance supply chain which fulfils the current and future needs of GDWT.
  • Effectively analyse and manage suppliers and implement corrective action/s to optimize stock and working capital without adversely affecting manufacturing service;
  • Analyze existing procurement systems, processes and procedures; identify constraints, table recommendations on how these can be improved and champion the implementation of more efficient and cost-effective systems, processes and procedures;
  • Manage purchasing in terms of manufacturing operations and execution of the Procurement Strategy.
  • Develop and maintain, on a monthly basis, an appropriate MRO/Technical procurement balanced scorecard as well as applicable benchmarks.
  • Develop the long term implementation plans that will allow the procurement function to realise the continuous improvements in the MRO and Technical procurement area.
  • Promotes and operates the proper utilisation of the SAGE MRP system for application with MRO and Technical procurement e.g. automated purchase order system.
  • Oversee, manage and approve supplier SLA's, best practice tools, purchasing methods and in supplier failure analysis activities, assist with corrective actions;
  • Active involvement in prototype and engineering method qualification activities to ensure that local suppliers are able to meet the company's requirements and specifications;
  • Interface with supplier engineering and quality representatives concerning problems with quality, and ensure that effective corrective action is implemented;
  • Responsible for translation and implementation of the company's procurement and supply, demand and materials management operations;
  • Develop proper MRP and BOM processes at sites;
  • Responsible for the integration and effective operation of the supply chain component of the SAGE ERP system and enable the management of supply chain system information;
  • Manage the Warehousing and Distribution functions as outsourced to Dawn Distribution Center;
  • Ensure our stock is adequately accounted for and timeously delivered to our customers to improve customer satisfaction as well as service levels and stock transfers are improved.
  • Ensure that POD's are returned timeously and available to Accounts;
  • Direct distribution centre operation to ensure achievement of cost, productivity, accuracy or timeliness objectives;
  • Negotiate transportation rates or services and enter into beneficial long term agreements
  • Advise and participate effectively in the Make or Buy process;
  • Develop and maintain suggestion planning , training and up skilling of staff;
  • Manage and reduce risk at all times;
  • Develop and manage a strategy and operating model for the cross functional Customer Service Management function that supports the growth and development of the GDWT business through the provision of a winning and fit-for-purpose customer service capability;
  • Develop, implement and manage an OTIF strategy with a 95% delivery rate with a core focus on customer centricity;

The Successful Applicant

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and effiencies:

  • Relevant Degree / Qualification
  • Experience in a SCD role with transformation of the SC experience is essential
  • Must come from a manufacturing company
  • 10 Yrs in Engineering /Manufacturing/Industrial/Factory Environment Supply Chain
  • 5 Yrs in a Senior Management Position
  • 2-3 Yrs working with technical procurement
  • 2-3 Yrs working with bill of materials
  • 5 Yrs working in and leading Cross-functional teams
  • 5 Yrs warehouse operations management
  • Be able to work out of Krugersdorp on the West Rand of Johannesburg
