About our client
Our client is a conglomerate possessing diversified commercial interests in oil and gas exploration and production, real estate development, biofuels, insurance and logistics businesses. It is seeking a Chief Executive Officer for its oil and gas exploration and production subsidiary, which has secured some oil blocks in the gulf of Guinea.

Job description
The CEO will have the desire to grow the subsidiary into a dominant company in energy exploration and production. The CEO will manage all aspects of the company with existing exploration and production operators and build in-house exploration and production capacity. The CEO will create and lead a team of professionals in the development and operation of the company's oil and gas business having full Profit & Loss (P&L) accountability to the Board. The CEO will also participate in the company's fund raising activities in international capital markets.

Reporting to the Chairman, the CEO will:
- Develop, propose and implement annual budget plans, monitor investments and manage all aspects of the company.
- Lead the physical development of the oil & gas activities and represent the best interests of the company in line with budget, legal requirements, strategy and objectives set by the Board.
- Create and maintain cross functional lines of reporting into corporate headquarters and the facilitation of communication and understanding amongst shareholders.
- Represent the company externally with government, statutory/regulatory bodies and joint venture business partners.
- Take lead accountability for the safe operation of the activities; protect employee and employer interests with satisfactory HSEC performance.

Who we are looking for
Candidates will have over 15 years experience; including senior level, in the oil & gas industry and a thorough understanding of the upstream market. Candidates must also have the capacity to build legitimacy and leadership by the commercial development and must be able to deliver results in a complex environment. Prior experience in an independent oil & gas company will be an added advantage. Taking into account the local context, a personal or professional experience in an emerging market country will be useful for rapid integration.
