Geologist

Tell us about your PageGroup career so far

It has been six best months since I joined Michael Page. Coming from the industrial sector I was placed in the technology division looking after mining, engineering and construction for the top 100 JSE companies as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs). With the support of my team and the entire office, I have made significant growth in my career within the company and I would like to continue assisting our clients with disruptive solutions which will set them apart from their competitors in this digital disruptive age.

Why did you join PageGroup?

After working in the platinum belt for five years as a Geologist, I went back to further my studies and started with a postgraduate diploma in business administration which was a general management degree. That was my first encounter with recruitment as we had an HR module. After I completed this, I then proceeded to do a Master of Management in Finance and Investments whilst running an aquaponic farm in my mum’s back yard. During my last year of course work, I started looking for recruitment opportunities. It was on LinkedIn that I saw Michael Page. My first thought was to come through as a candidates looking to be placed, but instead I applied for a job as a recruitment consultant. I was invited for what I thought was an interview, but it turned out to be my first encounter with the world of recruitment - I met the team, interacted with my peers and since that day I have never looked back.

What are your career aspirations with PageGroup?

One thing that drew me to Michael Page was the opportunity to take ownership and how much the company embraces the entrepreneurial spirit. I have the opportunity to own my business within the business and to bring about innovative ideas to run my business. I would like to grow my business within Michael Page and dominate in terms of market share. The career advancement path is clearly paved and I would like to see myself growing in the company over the years, making Michael Page a one stop shop for recruitment in the South African market across all industries and sectors.

What is most rewarding about your job?

Information Technology (IT) is at its peak globally and we see industries which were not big in IT joining in as the world goes through a digital transformation bubble. The most rewarding aspect of my job besides placing a candidate, securing a future for their family and advancing their career, is working across different industries and keeping tabs on the latest in the markets which I play in. Though the pressure can be overwhelming at times I enjoy it as it keeps the fire burning for best results.

Do you have any advice to anybody thinking about joining PageGroup?

Recruitment is not on top of any graduate’s list of careers after graduation, however a career with Michael Page is second to none. If you are looking for a career where you will work hard and play as hard then a career with Michael Page is for you. The office is made up of a dynamic, energetic team with opportunities across all sectors and industries.  The ultimate best indeed!
