Job Description

Manage and grow the Specialty Risks portfolio (e.g. engineering, marine, aviation, liability, energy, construction, or other non-standard risks);
Underwrite complex and high-value risks in line with approved underwriting guidelines and delegated authorities;
Develop underwriting strategies, pricing approaches, and portfolio management plans to ensure sustainable profitability;
Assess risk exposures, coverage structures, and reinsurance requirements in collaboration with internal and external partners;
Support business development initiatives by providing technical underwriting input and tailored solutions to brokers and clients;
Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, reinsurers, surveyors, and other key stakeholders;
Monitor portfolio performance, loss trends, accumulation exposures, and risk concentration, and implement corrective actions;
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and risk governance frameworks;
Lead, mentor, and develop technical underwriting teams within the Specialty Risks function.

The Successful Applicant

Professional qualification in Insurance (CII) or Degree in Risk Management, Engineering, or a related field;
Minimum 7-10 years' experience in Specialty Risks underwriting within General Insurance, including at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or managerial role;
Strong technical expertise in one or more specialty lines (engineering, marine, liability, etc.);
Proven ability to underwrite complex and non-standard risks;
Strong commercial acumen with a disciplined approach to risk and profitability;
Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills; and
Demonstrated ability to lead and develop technical teams
