Job Description

  • Oversee daily financial operations across multiple sites, ensuring accurate cash-ups, fuel reconciliations, card transactions, and operational reporting.
  • Manage accounting processes including bookkeeping, journal reviews, month-end support, general ledger integrity, and maintaining accurate financial records within Xero.
  • Drive cash flow management through forecasting, liquidity monitoring, working capital oversight, and short- to medium-term cash planning.
  • Lead budgeting and forecasting activities, including annual budgets, variance analysis, performance tracking, and financial modelling for new projects.
  • Control stock and inventory management across fuel, retail, bakery, and food service operations, ensuring accurate stock reconciliations and minimising shrinkage.
  • Produce management information and business performance reports, providing insights on profitability, margins, operational trends, and financial risks.
  • Manage supplier payments and debtor controls, including reconciliations, payment processing, collections follow-up, and age analysis reporting.
  • Partner with senior leadership on growth initiatives, supporting business expansion, new developments, acquisitions, and operational improvement projects through financial analysis and commercial insight.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Financial Controller should have:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting qualifications such as CA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and regulations.
  • Proven experience in managing accounting operations within the business retail industry.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and financial systems.
