This is what we set out to discover with our Job Confidence Index, a global measure of how optimistic job applicants are about the current employment market.
The Michael Page Job Confidence Index is a quarterly barometer that measures the perception of candidates about their job situation and the labour market. The data is collected on voluntary basis from candidates who applied for a job offer or submitted their CV on Michael Page.

Only 39% are optimistic about the current job market situation with 57% believing that the situation will improve in the next 6 months. Candidates trust recruitment firms most to assist with their job search, followed by professional networking platforms and personal networks. Most people (55%) are looking for a new job because they think their current role isn’t offering them opportunities for further development.

Most job seekers are looking for their next career move for a better salary package and so that their responsibilities broaden. Candidates trust recruitment firms as the channel most useful in their job search. 83% have positive expectations with regards to their skills development in the next one year.
